Zagreb Airport New Terminal Competition - Croatia, 2008

Due to the increasing numbers of the passengers and the aging of the existing passenger terminal, a new terminal intended to become the main terminal of Zagreb Airport with a capacity of 5 million passengers per year was planned to be built. 17 architects (7 international, 10 local) were invited for the competition and Shigeru Ban Architects were selected as the second place. The requirement was to design an environmentally friendly terminal. A timber structure was proposed to cover the entire terminal for the amount CO2 emission throughout the construction process is one fourth of that of a steel structure of the same scale.

既存の旅客ターミナルの旅客の増加および老朽化に伴って、ザグレブ空港のメインターミナルになるような新しいターミナルの建設が予定された。年間、500万人の乗客が利用できることと、環境に優しいターミナルを設計することがこのコンペの必要用件。そこで、建設プロセスでのCO2排出量をカットするよう木構造案にした。そうすることで、鉄骨と比べて4分の1もCO2排出量をカットすることができる。また、17人の建築家（7国際、10ローカル）が競技会に招待され、結果、我々の案は第2位として選ばれた。
