Unlike conventional inward-looking museums, the public areas are enclosed by transparent glass façades that allow passersby to glimpse the museum's interior, inviting them inside. Visitors entering from the street are welcomed into a generous covered public space beneath a large roof, where an outdoor multipurpose area accommodates events and community activities throughout the year.
Supporting the roof, a distinctive colonnade is finished with permanent concrete formwork made from Mino ware ceramics—including Kiseto, Setoguro, Shino, and Oribe—creating a façade that reflects the region's ceramic heritage. Temporary tent canopies can be installed beneath the roof, allowing a wide variety of events and markets to take place regardless of the weather.

従来の博物館は閉鎖的な箱的建物だが、ビジターエリアはガラスファサードにより道路からも博物館内部が見え、人々を誘い入れる。道路から入るとそこには大屋根に覆われた大空間があり、屋外多目的スペースはいつもイベントなどでにぎわいを演出する。
大屋根を支える柱は美濃焼の黄瀬戸、瀬戸黒、志野、織部の特徴的な焼き物でできたコンクリート柱の仕上（兼型枠）の列柱による独特のファサードを作る。仮設テント屋根を張り、天候にかかわらずさまざまなイベントや市場を開くことが可能である。
