The request was to design a symbolic factory to commemorate the company's 100th anniversary, located on a site next to the Second Tomei Expressway, which is currently under construction. The design was required to be visible from highway vehicles, to represent a factory producing high-tech glass for dental materials, and to have a viewing space with Mount Fuji at the top. Due to the glass manufacturing process, the floor area of the lower floors was large, while the viewing space was small, and the pyramidal shape was chosen to contrast with the view of Mount Fuji. Since the plant will generate electricity to cover almost all of the electricity used in the plant, it was confirmed that a pyramidal shape would also enable it to generate electricity on the north side, and so the entire surface could be covered with solar panels.
建設中の第二東名高速道路脇の敷地に、会社創立100年を記念したシンボリックな工場の設計の依頼であった。高速道路を通る車からも目立ち、歯科材料用のハイテク・ガラスの工場らしいもの、更にトップに富士山の展望スペースを設けることが要求された。ガラスの製造工程により下階の面積は大きく、展望スペースは小さく、また富士山とのコントラストとなるようにピラミッド形が導き出された。工場で使われる電力をほぼ賄う発電をするため、ピラミッド状だと北面でも発電できることが確認でき、全面をソーラーパネルで被うことができた。
