The Wajima Community Center is a community facility for the Honmachi district of Wajima, which was severely affected by the fire that followed the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. The project incorporates materials and techniques rooted in the region, creating continuity with the local architectural and cultural context. Paper tube columns are finished with lacquer paint, a traditional craft of Wajima, while the timber structure draws on traditional construction methods found in the region.
The interior also incorporates a material developed by reusing palm fronds from the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka–Kansai, which have been processed into oriented strand board (OSB) panels for interior finishes. By bringing together local materials and techniques with materials from another Expo pavilion, the project gives new life to existing resources while creating a new community space for the district.
